Hi! I’m Lisa Cummins, and I’m proud to serve as the Instructional Coach at Hazelwood East Middle School. I’m certified in Missouri to teach Language Arts (Grades 5–9), English (Grades 9–12), and I’m also a certified Reading Specialist for Grades K–12.
My teaching journey began in the private school sector, where I spent the first 13 years of my career. During that time, I taught English Language Arts to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and English I to 8th-grade students. I’ve also had the opportunity to privately tutor high school students in grades 9 through 12, helping them strengthen their reading and writing skills.
In 2019, I joined Hazelwood East Middle as an ELA teacher. I held that position until the 2023–2024 school year, when I transitioned into the Reading Specialist role. In October 2025, I was honored to be promoted to Instructional Coach, where I now support our amazing team of educators in refining instruction and improving student outcomes.
I earned my degrees from Fontbonne University—a Bachelor's in Education with a focus on English, a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Master's in Curriculum Design. Education has always been a passion of mine, and I love finding new ways to inspire both students and teachers.
Outside of school, life is full and busy! My husband and I have two wonderful kids—our son is a freshman in high school, and our daughter is in 5th grade—and we share our home with two energetic dogs. Between juggling school schedules and extracurriculars, I enjoy reading, crafting, spending time with family, and always looking for ways to grow personally and professionally.
I’m truly excited to work alongside the incredibly dedicated teachers at East Middle. It’s a privilege to be part of a team that’s so committed to student success.
