Mrs. Lisa Cummins- Instructional Coach

Lisa Cummins serves as the Instructional Coach at Hazelwood East Middle School. She is certified in Missouri to teach Language Arts (Grades 5–9), English (Grades 9–12), and is a certified Reading Specialist for Grades K–12.

Her teaching career began in the private school sector, where she spent the first 13 years educating students. During that time she taught English Language Arts to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. She has also privately tutored high school students (Grades 9–12), supporting their reading and writing development.

In 2019, she joined Hazelwood East Middle as an ELA 8/English I teacher and remained in that role through the 2022–2023 school year. Beginning in the fall of 2023, she moved into the Reading Specialist role to expand support for students’ reading, writing, and critical‑thinking development—conducting literacy assessments, providing targeted small‑group and individual interventions, partnering with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction, and monitoring progress to refine interventions. In October 2025, she was promoted to Instructional Coach, where she now partners with teachers to strengthen instruction and raise student achievement by modeling lessons and co‑teaching, observing and giving evidence‑based feedback, and facilitating collaborative planning to support differentiated, equitable instruction.

She earned degrees from Fontbonne University: a Bachelor’s in Education with a focus on English, a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Master’s in Curriculum Design. Education is a long‑standing passion, and she enjoys finding new ways to inspire both students and teachers.

Outside of school, she and her husband have two children—a son, Aidan and a daughter, Molly—and two energetic dogs, Helen and Belle. She enjoys reading, crafting, spending time with family, and pursuing personal and professional growth.

She is excited to work alongside the dedicated teachers at East Middle and considers it a privilege to be part of a team committed to student success.
